Star Trek Captain’s Log House Rules (Part 1)

Below are house rules for playing Captain’s Log using cooperative or guided modes.

I tweaked the Momentum and Threat rules to make them work with multiple players and added guidance on how they are spent during coop play. I added turns and rounds for combat (although PCs are still the only ones who roll) and helping (assistance) rules. Added more actions for Starship Combat, while still keeping things fast and simple.

Captain’s Log 01: A Shocking Revelation

The first adventure of our TOS era Taurus Reach campaign using the Star Trek Adventures Captain’s Log Solo RPG from Modiphius, played cooperatively with five players and no GM.

Mission Rolled in Captain’s Log

  • Mission Type: Diplomacy + Setup Starfleet Academy Extension
  • Inciting Incident: Destroy
  • Theme: Rogue Superweapon
  • Advantage: Critical Evidence

Captain’s Log: Stardate 1367.4. This is Captain Horatio Nelson of the USS Lexington. We are currently on a diplomatic mission to the planet Vashni (Epsilon Subsector 0401), tasked with establishing a Starfleet Academy. However, we’ve uncovered troubling evidence of Klingon involvement—specifically, that they are funding local factions to develop a superweapon. The Vashnian government denies any knowledge of such a weapon, which is complicating our negotiations considerably.

Act I

Scene 1

Our away team beamed aboard a Vashnian facility amid escalating tensions. They quickly found themselves engaged in boarding actions. Klingon forces had taken control of the observation deck, and a second Klingon team was active elsewhere in the complex.

2024 Book of the Year Award: ‘The Black Company’ by Glen Cook

We lost a dear friend, Robert Armbruster, several months ago after his courageous battle with cancer. Robert was a beloved member of our gaming community, and we shared many joyful years of tabletop adventures together. He was also an enthusiastic participant in a book club that a few of us tabletop RPG gamers founded.

To honor Robert’s memory, we established an annual book club award to celebrate the top book from the twelve we read during our monthly Dicehaven book club meetings. This year’s winner was The Black Company by Glen Cook.
