Overview

  • Sector: Taurus Reach (Epsilon Subsector)
  • Era: Late 2268 / Early 2269 (post-Vanguard series)

Following the events of the Vanguard novel series, the Federation worked to fortify its presence in the volatile Taurus Reach.

Starbase K-12 was built as a forward base for exploration, diplomacy, and artifact containment, standing as a fragile bulwark against Klingon aggression and Tholian expansion.

Taurus Reach (Epsilon Subsector) Key Systems

  • Starbase K-12 (ε0202): Newly constructed starbase — smaller than Vanguard, but highly fortified. Serves as a research and defense hub.
  • Faraday IV (ε0102): A vital mining colony providing strategic resources, now under threat from Klingon raids.
  • Caladon (ε0105): A charted but uninhabited world, recently found to hold potential ancient ruins — possibly of Shedai origin.
  • Dera (ε0303): Rocky, desolate world. Strange energy signatures hint at buried secrets.
  • Vashni (ε0402): A world of strategic interest; Klingon activity has been detected near its orbit.
  • Unexplored Systems (e.g., ε0404, ε0505): Many hexes contain uncharted systems, rich for exploration — and potential conflict.

Regional Tensions and Factions

  • Federation: Holding on to hard-won ground; politically weakened after Vanguard’s fall.
  • Klingon Empire: Sensing weakness, launching raids and seeking artifacts.
  • Tholian Assembly: Moving methodically to expand influence and quarantine Shedai dangers.

Campaign Opportunities

  • Shedai Artifacts: Race to recover or secure ancient Shedai artifacts.
  • Competing Empires: Prevent Klingon and Tholian dominance in the Reach.
  • Exploration: Conduct diplomacy, espionage, and exploration across newly charted systems.
